Detalhes do Evento

EMSEA celebrates its 10 years anniversary!

To usher this milestone, EMSEA ventures beyond the EU boundaries and brings its members to one of the EU's partner countries: Georgia.

The conference takes place in Batumi, a vibrant coastal city in the southeast.

At this conference, EMSEA members, organizations, and individuals that have been invaluable to marine education in the first decade will share their expertise on marine education. In Batumi, we will establish a Black Sea Literacy Network, under the framework of BRIDGE-BS (bridgeblacksea.org) project. The goal is to bring together marine scientists, educators, companies involved in the blue economy, ocean professionals, and anyone who is enthusiastic and curious about education on the Black Sea. The conference aims to showcase good education and training practices on improving knowledge of the marine environment, the blue economy, and maritime careers. Moreover, it is an opportunity to network by facilitating a regional dialogue on Ocean Literacy in the Black Sea and with the wider EMSEA community.

The program consists of presentations and wprkshops on the following topics

  • Ocean literacy in the Black Sea
  • Blue Economy and Education
  • Watersports and Ocean Literacy
  • Ocean Conservation
  • Open Session

How to get to Batumi, Georgia

There are 2 ways you can get to Batumi by plane. You can either fly to the Alexander Kartveli Batumi International Airport or to the adjacent Kutaisi International Airport. Both airports are well connected, however, from Western and South European countries there are not as many direct flights to Batumi as there are to Kutaisi. Flights to Batumi are mostly connection flights via Istanbul. Additionally, flights to Batumi are more expensive than to Kutaisi.

If you decide to fly to Batumi Airport, you are 10 10-minute ride away from Radisson Blu, the EMSEA conference venue. From the airport, you can either take a bus (line 10), or a taxi. Here you can find more information on how to get to the hotel from Batumi International Airport.

Kutaisi is a city adjacent to Batumi that is full of wonders, so if you choose to fly to Kutaisi we would highly recommend taking some days to enjoy it. Some of the must-sees in Kutaisi are its caves (Prometheus and Sataplia Caves), which are famous for the stalactites and stalagmites, gorgeous forests, and fossilized dinosaur footprints; as well as ancient Monasteries and vineyards. From Kutaisi you can get to Batumi in 2 hours by car or 3 hours by bus (more information here).
